Being a Muslim in America
Being Muslim has not been easy since the events of 9/11. Indeed it has gotten increasingly difficult to live with that designation – e.g., for someone who was expelled from an airplane for looking Middle Eastern six months after those events. The election of Donald Trump has been a leap backward in that worsening trend. Islamophobia was one of the hallmarks of Donald Trump’s campaign and the picks for his cabinet reflect that cultural background. This talk will address the ways in which Muslims can respond to this challenge.
